Understanding Speech Development in Babies
As parents, you naturally worry about your child's development. One of the key milestones is speech. Many parents eagerly await the magic moment their baby says 'Mama' or 'Dada'. But when should you start to be concerned if these words don't come as expected?
Most babies begin to coo by around 2-3 months and can babble by 4-6 months. By 12 months, many first words, including 'Mama' and 'Dada,' may emerge. However, each child develops at their own pace.
If your baby isn't saying any words at around 12-15 months, it could be time to consult with a pediatrician. Look out for other signs of delayed development, such as difficulty making eye contact, not responding to their name, or showing little interest in social interactions.
To promote language skills, talk to your baby often, read together, and encourage interaction with others. Singing songs and playing games can also stimulate their interest in words.
Remember, every child is unique, and some may take longer to start speaking. If you have concerns about your baby’s speech development, reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance and support.
